Statera Underwriting Management

Underwriting performance and sustainable underwriting profit is the measure of our success, and every element of our strategy is built around delivering it.

Statera is the Managing Agency for Syndicates 4242 and 1416.

Statera emerged from the underwriting team at Syndicate 4242 and brings more than a century of collected underwriting industry experience.

Since 2017, the underwriting management team has risen from two dedicated team members to a sizeable workforce supported by over 100 executives across the wider group. All key capabilities – from underwriting operations and delegated underwriting to catastrophe modelling/exposure management, actuarial, claims, outwards reinsurance, portfolio management and systems and data governance – have been developed in-house. Binding Authority business accounts for over 40% of GWP under management.

As our platform grows in capability and diversity, Statera delivers the enhanced systems, controls, and decision-making framework necessary to manage underwriting effectively, underpinned by a single set of values.

Underwriting performance and sustainable underwriting profit is the measure of our success, and every element of our strategy is built around delivering it.

Statera’s goal is to be the platform for choice for specialist, high-calibre and proven underwriters who:

  • are performance driven;
  • thrive within our culture;
  • are committed to strong risk management and controls.

We are building a sustainable, long-term business that will give its syndicates the ability to manage capacity in line with market conditions. Supported by digitalised operations, our underwriters are equipped with the data and insights needed to make better-informed decisions.

Syndicates 4242 and 1416 write a diverse, low-volatility specialty book targeting sustainable performance. Syndicate 4242 leads Lloyd’s consortia for Octave Ventures business units globally, providing around 60% of total capacity, with the remainder provided by other Lloyd’s syndicates and global insurers.

The Syndicates have introduced a strong team of experienced and respected professionals to Lloyd’s, with businesses which are accretive to the strength of Lloyd’s.

Growth will drive natural diversification across our underwriting units, coverholders and managed syndicates and our agile model means we can flex our scale as market cycles evolve.
